What a great time it was for all of us who were lucky enough
to live in that magic time. And if you were in high school
then it was pure fun! Bobby socks, pony tails, penny loafers,
Rock N Roll, duck tails, sideburns, Rock N Roll, American
Bandstand, Rock N Roll, and a zillion other things come
to mind.

But the things that stand out most in my mind are the music,
the dancing, the cars, but above all was the music!

e diners, blue plate specials, nickel cokes, cheeseburgers
for a quarter, luscious milk shakes and real french fries!
Wow! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Hula-Hoops
swept the nation in a craze. We all tried it and laughed to see
our Moms and Dads out hula us all.

We all had a collection of 45 records, and a turntable.
The records were about a dollar!

You didn't find a drive in restaurant on every corner but
there were a few back then, such as A&W.....How about a root
beer float? And, those sizes........papa beer, mama beer,
and don't forget baby beer!

A bottle of Pepsi was a nickel, coca cola was called Coke those cute little bottles. Really cool cars you were a boy, had sideburns, and one of these
you were really COOL!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Carhops to serve you, some on roller skates...They had
to be good!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Double Bubble bubble gum, with little tiny paper cartoons
folded up inside each little package of gum. Try reading one
of those today without glasses!

Remember the gas wars? We would check out the prices before
we bought our gas and it was pretty easy to do because all the
gas stations were so close together. I can remember it being
about 24 cents a gallon! "Give me a dollar's worth" was our
favorite answer to "How much"! It seemed like you could ride
all night on that dollar. And, for that buck, the attendants
pumped it for you, cleaned the windshield, and checked your
oil and tires!

One of the few places that had air conditioning was the
Woolworth store. What a neat 10 cent store that was! In the
summer, you would spend a lot of time in the store because
when you got home you had to cool off with fans.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
And, the shakes! I still love those shakes but back then it
seemed like you could eat and drink all you wanted and never
gain an ounce!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I remember getting our first TV in '55 and it seemed we were
all mesmerized.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Mom could watch soap operas, and after school we could see
American Bandstand and learn about all the newest dances,
although I never was much of a dancer.
Image and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPic
And, who could forget "Hey, kids! What time is it?" "It's Howdy
Doody time!" with Clarabell, and Buffalo Bob.

There are other things I remember such as: coke was something
you drank; grass was something I had to cut when I got home
from school; crack was in the sidewalk; and there are many other
things that have taken on a new meaning in this day and time. I
remember pleasant things mostly such as: paying attention to my hair
'cause I wanted to be cool;
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
feeding nickels, yes nickels, into the jukebox:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
and more nickels into the pinball machine, thinking I was
going to get rich!

the picture show downtown: (for you youngsters that means
movie, cinema, flick, etc.)
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This picture is the "downtown picture show" from my hometown
The Drive In Movie on Saturday night:

And, after the movie and after we had cruised around for
awhile, or maybe "parked" for a little while, if I had enough
money left, we would stop off at the local Drive In
Restaurant:

I even worked here for a time. I have no idea when this was
taken but that sure looks like my '54 Chev parked in front.)

I remember that some of the happiest times of my life was the
time I spent playing in the high school band, performing at
concerts, football games, basketball games, and the band trips
that were taken.

This is the Lawrence County High School Band; that's me
on the left end of the front row.)
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This is a picture of some of our Majorettes.)
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
(This is the dance band I played in; me on the drums.)
Ah, yes; the band trips were what we all looked forward to,
and, the many friends that I had, too many of whom I
haven't seen for some time.
And, the music keeps coming back to mind, such as Rockin' Robin:
At the Hop: Little Nash Rambler: Puppy Love:
Rock Around The Clock:And on, and on, and on..Those days may be gone but the memories linger on and onThanks for reminiscing with me; I hope I brought back some
memories for some of you.

What If She's An Angel

There's a man standing on the corner
With a sign sayin "will work for food"
You know the man
You see him every morning
The one you never give your money to
You can sit there with your window rolled up
Wondering when the lights going to turn green
Never knowing what a couple more bucks
In his pocket might mean
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
What if he's an angel sent here from Heaven
And he's making certain that you're doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in his face
Knowing deep down it could have
been his saving grace
What if he's an angel
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
There's a man
There's a woman
Living right above you in apartment G
There's alot of noise coming from the ceiling
And it don't sound like harmony
You can sit there with your TV turned up
While the words and his anger fly
Come tomorrow when you see her with her shades on
Can you look her in the eye
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
What if she's an angel sent here from heaven
And she's making certain that you're doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have
been her saving grace
What if she's an angel

A little girl on daddy's lap
Hiding her disease with a baseball cap
You can turn the channel
Most people do
But what if you were sitting in her daddy's shoes
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Maybe she's an angel
Sent here from Heaven
And she's making certain you're doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace

What if she's an angel ???
